Seller Guide

Before you Apply

We’ve created this guide to help you submit a clear and successful application.

Season Archive focuses on contemporary, well-cared-for pieces from recent seasons. Providing accurate details and clear photographs allows us to assess your items quickly and respond with confidence.

Before applying, please review the information below to ensure your pieces meet our current buying standards.

Things we buy

We focus on contemporary Australian and international women’s fashion brands.

We love current styles, generally manufactured within the last 2–5 seasons.
Both new with tags and pre-owned items are welcome.

We accept a range of fabrications, with a strong preference for natural fibres such as linen, silk and cotton.

Items must be clean, freshly washed and in excellent condition.

Minor flaws or discreet repairs may be acceptable if:

  • fully disclosed in your application

  • clearly photographed

  • reviewed and approved prior to sending

Minor alterations (such as hems taken up) may also be considered if disclosed and reviewed.
Please include the placement, size and nature of any flaw, repair or alteration in your application.

If you have items from a contemporary brand, particularly Australian or New Zealand labels, that are not listed in our brand guide, you’re welcome to include them in your application for assessment.

Things we don’t buy

We do not purchase:

  • Fast fashion brands (e.g. Kmart, Shein, H&M)

  • Ultra-luxury designer brands (e.g. Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Hermès, Gucci, Dior)

  • Counterfeit items, replicas or “dupes”

  • Shoes, handbags or accessories

  • Vintage pieces or clearly dated styles

  • Items with stains, marks, discolouration, fading, tears, pilling or pulls

  • Garments with strong perfume, cigarette or vape odour

  • Skinny jeans, shorts, Tier Three brand basic t-shirts or tank tops

  • Intimates, pyjamas, hosiery, swimwear or activewear

While minor alterations may be acceptable, we do not consider items with major structural alterations, including:

  • changes to the original size or fit (e.g. taken in at the waist)

  • sleeve length changes

  • significant length changes

  • colour alterations or added embellishments

We do not purchase items older than 7 years.
If you’re unsure, some brands include the year of manufacture on the care label (see our Resources page for examples). Otherwise, feel free to include the item in your application and we’ll assess the age.

Condition Standards

Excellent
Like-new condition with no visible signs of wear.

Very Good
Minor, discreet signs of wear that do not affect the overall presentation of the garment.

Good
Light wear consistent with careful use. Fabric and structure remain well maintained.

Not Accepted
Outdated styles or garments showing significant wear, damage, or deterioration.

Examples of Flaws

Below are examples of common issues that may affect eligibility. Please disclose any flaws in your application.

Pilling
Small balls of fibre that form on the surface of fabric, often in high-friction areas. Natural fibres such as wool and mohair are particularly prone to pilling.
While pilling can sometimes be reduced using fabric shavers, this process removes fibres and may damage delicate materials.
Visible or widespread pilling may result in an item being declined.

Discolouration
Changes in colour caused by sun exposure, bleach or chemical contact, colour transfer from other garments (such as denim), or improper drying.
Any noticeable fading, patchiness, or uneven tone may affect eligibility.

Wash fade
General fading caused by repeated washing.
We do not accept garments showing wash fade, unless the style is intentionally designed to appear distressed or faded.

Marks & Stains
Includes (but is not limited to):

  • Make-up or tanning product residue

  • Yellowing on collars or underarms

  • Food, beverage, or other staining

All marks must be disclosed. Visible or untreated stains will result in decline.

Tears & holes
Includes accidental damage, fabric thinning, or moth holes.
Discreet, professionally repaired damage may be considered if disclosed and photographed in your application.

Pulls & snags
Common in delicate fabrics such as satin, silk, or knitwear. Pulls occur when threads are drawn out of the fabric weave, creating lines, puckering, or distortion.

Seam slippage
Occurs when stress weakens seam areas, causing the fabric to separate or thin. This often happens when garments are worn too tightly, particularly in fabrics with limited stretch.
Seam slippage is typically difficult to repair without altering the garment’s structure.

Alteration
Minor alterations such as hemming are generally acceptable.
We do not accept garments that have been significantly altered in size, structure, colour, or embellished in any way.

Photo Requirements

To assess your items accurately, we require clear, well-lit images of:

  • Front of the garment

  • Back of the garment

  • Brand and size tag

  • Care label (including composition and manufacturing information)

  • Any flaws, repairs, or alterations

Incomplete applications may delay assessment.

Photo Tips

  • Use natural light where possible

  • Photograph garments on a hanger or laid flat on a neutral surface

  • Do not use filters or heavy editing

  • Ensure all labels are clearly legible

  • You may use a layout app to combine brand and care labels into one image (see example below)

Clear, accurate photos help us assess your pieces efficiently and fairly.

Dating Your Item

We prioritise contemporary pieces manufactured within the last 7 years.

Some brands - including Country Road, Trenery and Witchery - include manufacturing codes or dates on their care labels as shown here:

Brand tag variations may also indicate age. The first tags are previously used tags, and the second are the newer tags:

If you’re unsure about the age of an item, you’re welcome to submit it. We will assess eligibility during the application process.

Please note: we do not accept vintage pieces unless explicitly stated.
